Journey

The only thing better than bikes is coffee and bikes
Whether it's a factory tour, a bike fit or an up close and personal look at how all our bikes are fabricated, it all starts in our humble Geelong premises. With coffee. It's not a prerequisite but it does help power you through the tour. One does not simply 'swing by Baum for a quick look'. With every manufacturing step taking place under our roof there is a lot to see.

Time it right and Darren could be behind the torch, welding the next work of art. Paint always has some fresh creation and the workshop is like cycling voyeurism, where you can spy on the someone else's new toy. There is even a weekly barbecue - we'll keep the day a secret, but the hotplate fires up rain, hail or shine and there is enough for guests.

At Baum customers become family. You are not purchasing a bike, rather a bit of Darren himself. We like to know our family so it all starts with a tour.

Step 1: Contact Us

Phone , email, or - if you happen to be passing - drop on in. Booking a time is the best way to guarantee we're home. After all, we love riding bikes too.

Step 2: Deposit

Your deposit opens up the opportunity for you to then find a date and time that suits for a bike fit - either on our fit bike or via fit data you provide. You don't need to be set on the model or material you're looking for just yet. In fact many start with one model in mind and shift to another. This is just to lock a time where we can assess your fit to tailor your Baum. If you are coming from interstate Avalon is the perfect arrival airport, only 25 minutes from the factory.

Step 3: The Design Brief

This is the fit drawings for your Baum, build specifications and the paint scheme. Whether a frameset or a complete bike, the brief is what we need to start construction and once signed off your Baum it enters the build queue.

Fitting
Fit is the core of every Baum. This step is vital to ensure your bicycle feels like an extension of you. Working together with our master fitter in our state of the art fitting studio we create a bicycle that is made to measure for you.

Design
World class tubing is nothing without inspired and tailored design. We take your bike fit, create your unique bike geometry and together refine the paint scheme that will adorn it.

Specifications
Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo, we are groupset agnostic and have all the offerings from the top manufacturers. This bike is about you. And while we always love the banter that comes with grouppos, ultimately the one you choose is what is what is 'best'. The only one you're not allowed to pick is Darren's Mavic ZAP. One of his many treasures, tucked away in a corner of Baumland.

If boutique is more your flavour we have a direct line to Busyman for the ultimate cockpit personalisation and access to niche offerings of the ilk of EE, Lightweight, Schmolke, Tune, Berk, et cetera. Thinking of something else? Just ask. There are no bad questions.

Step 4: Sign-off

Final boarding call. After the design brief, all build specifications are sent for your final approval and sign off. We will call you in the week following to ensure your satisfaction with each detail and once signed off, your Baum enters the build queue.

Step 5: Pre Construction

Our wait times can stretch in to many months, only this doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about you. As your Baum moves through our build queue, we will be in touch to provide a date of completion, arrange delivery details and a 50% progress payment on your complete Baum.

We’ll also use this opportunity to update you should any of your component choices be experiencing delays.

Step 6: Construction

With tubes ready, fabrication is a three week process.

Week one, the build. Tubes are cut to measure and machined before being tacked and welded. In week two we corrosion treat steel frames and blast finish titanium frames before they then proceed to paint.

Week three our professional, Pro-Tour experienced, mechanic will assemble your Baum and lovingly package it for shipping – unless you’re dropping by to pick it up in person from our showroom.

Step 7: Join the Family and Ride

We will arrange with you all the final account details, shipping or pick up of your Baum  from our showroom.

You're now a part of our family and it's time to ride.
